Wall Street Journal - Facebook Knows Instagram Is Toxic for Teen Girls, Company Documents Show

In 2019, Anastasia was able to recognize she had an eating disorder and knew it was connected to all the time she had spent on Instagram. We talked about how it’s not easy to talk about these things and how there’s a lot of taboo around eating disorders and body image.

Anastasia isn’t on any kind of social media platform anymore and I admire her for it. 

Researchers inside of Instagram were studying how the app was impacting teenagers. One out of three teenage girls said they felt bad about their bodies and instagram was making them feel worse.
Publicly, Facebook downplays the negative impact it has on teens and has not made the research public.
